Eric Gustafson

Again, on stumbleupon.com I discovered this interesting photographer... Eric Gustafson. Within his photography, he experiments with color and extreme exposure. Out of almost all of his photos my eye was drawn to the work above, After Rain. The color is interesting and slightly eerie. There is a sense of foreboding. Color is almost surreal.

OFF topic... I hate shoes.

Yes, I am a girl and I hate shoes. I understand that you need certain types of shoes for different activities, such as cleats for playing soccer, tennis shoes for walking, and flip flops for going to the beach... I am ok with this. I am tall for a girl and still expected to wear "heels", which I do not like at all. I don't like to be taller than everyone else. Yes, I know that heels portray a sense of class and are dressy and can definitely be an ART statement, but why are all the shoes in stores catered toward shorter, smaller people? I was looking for a pair of boots to wear during the winter... almost all of them either (1) had some sort of heel or (2) did not have a small enough size for me. Geez... I just needed to vent a little... I would love to go into a department store and just cut off all of the heels on all of the shoes. That might make for an interesting ART project. haha... Above is a picture I took of an article in Cosmopolitan magazine. I added some marks to show that I definitely disagree.

FUTURE continued...

Below is a picture that I took of an ad for the Toyota Prius (found in magazine), along with the TV commercial... The idea of creating landscape out of people is very creative, creepy in a sense and mesmerizing. Stemming from this idea, for the FUTURE project, I want to create landscape out of pieces of technology related items. I like what is stated at the end of this commercial, "It's harmony between man, nature, and machine."

More... FUTURISTIC ideas

Other ideas:
Influencing human qualities with technology. Yes, this is very stereotypical, but portraying this idea in a very creative and unique way could turn out really cool... Take a look at some of these photos and the links that follow... there are some interesting articles about future technology.

To the Future... & Beyond

The FUTURE is unpredictable... there are endless possibilites of what lies ahead. Will the Earth be a wasteland, as portrayed in the movie Wall-E? Will the people of the Earth have created and expanded technology so far that "machines" would take over? No one really knows for sure. We all hope for the best, yet secretly the general public is afraid of change... the unknown, the idea of unpredictability. We can only use our imagination to vividly portray a futuristic sense of the idea.

I see GREEN infused with technology. This idea could be shown in a positive or negative light. No one can deny that technology has vastly expanded and improved over time. Some creations are good, some possibly harmful to the environment.

Project IDEAS:
For the upcoming "FUTURE" project in Computer Art class, I have the idea of infusing technological images into a natural green scene. Tree trunks will be influenced and dressed with wire... leaves could be made out of computer chips, flowers made out of iPods and other gadgets... Of course this is just the only idea I have at this time... it can very well change over the course of this project. I am open to the idea of Earth being fertile in technology, yet maybe sparse in natural elements. I am hoping to have my piece represent the 4 seasons or the 4 elements in some way...

Cole Rise

I found the photography of Cole Rise while on stumbleupon.com... I was instantly intrigued by the use of color that was chosen for a number of his different photos. Also, the theme of 'jumping people' among a vast backdrop of landscape (throughout many of his art pieces) leads to interesting conversation. I really like what is stated on his website: "He can't tell you how big the universe is, or why we're really here, but his work sometimes flirts with the idea of knowing."
